STUDIO ETIQUETTE & SAFETY
Dress
Dress in layers and in natural fibers. Wear clothes you don't mind getting clay on, and footwear sturdy enough for concrete floors. NO OPEN TOED SHOES during class or studio use.
Headphones
No headphone use will be allowed during classes or open studio due to safety reasons. Each person needs to be able to hear what is happening around them.
Equipment
Before using the equipment, you must be trained to use it safely. If you are not sure, ask.
Cleanup
Each person using the studio is responsible to clean up their area. If using studio tools, the tools need to be clean and put away.
Conduct
Please treat each other’s equipment and space with respect. DO NOT touch other’s work, unless you have their permission to do so. DO NOT take other people’s shoes, aprons or tools.

KILN FIRING SERVICES
LWS offers bisque and glaze firing services in our electric kilns. The following rules must be met in order for your pottery pieces to be fired in our kilns.
Rules

Clay and Glaze must be approved by Tony Macias prior to firing.

We expect your pieces to be constructed and glazed correctly. If your glaze runs onto the shelves, you will be charged for shelf cleaning or a new kiln shelf. The bottom of your pieces must be free of glaze material.

Work must be completely dry. If your work blows up in the kiln and ruins other people’s work, you will be charged accordingly.

Any items not picked up within 30 days of the completion will be considered abandoned, becomes property of studio and may be discarded or donated.

Small flat pieces, smaller than a cell phone, must be approved and will incur an additional charge. (IE: ornaments)

Small pieces smaller than a baseball, must be approved and will incur an additional charge. (IE: beads or miniatures)

No stilting, all bottoms must be free of glaze.

We DO NOT FIRE glass, items stuffed with paper, metal, or any other non-clay items.
Turn-around time depends on the current schedule but is generally two weeks.
Please note: Kilns will be loaded and unloaded by studio technicians only.
Costs
Bisque Kiln Firing: Cone 05-04
Firing per piece = $0.01 per gram of weight of piece about $4.50 a pound
Glaze Kiln Firing: Cone 5-6
Firing per piece = $0.012 per gram of weight of piece about $5.50 a poundS
STORAGE SHELF RENTAL
¼ Shelf – 24” W x 24” D x 15” H; Cost $0.55/day
½ Shelf – 48” W x 24” D x 15”H; Cost $1.10/day
Full Shelf – 96” W x 24” D x 15”H; Cost $2.20/day
PRIVATE SESSIONS
$75-$80/hour with a 2-hour minimum session. Fee will be determined by level of instruction needed to complete the project.
STUDIO USE
Must consult with Tony Macias prior to use.
$80/4 hour increments by appointment
Technical and aesthetic guidance by appointment available $50/hour extra during studio use, one-hour minimum charge, then 30-minute increments.
Special-order materials available. Available from The Potter’s Shop (Waukesha, WI). We will pick-up materials once or twice a month depending on our needs.
