Instructor: Tony Macias

Description:

In this introductory handbuilding class, we will get acquainted with the properties of clay, explore its potential, and create a dialogue with the material as we collaborate in creating several piece using pinch, coil and slab methods. Think of this class as a simple play date in mud.

The focus is to gain skill, confidence, and knowledge in a variety of handbuilding techniques while enjoying the space, the people, and the clay.

Completed pieces will be fired in an oxidation (electric kiln) firing using studio premixed glazes.

There will be three guided projects with specific goals and guidelines to support concept development, skill acquisition, and the full process from idea to completion—through demonstration, hands-on practice, guidance, and feedback.

It’s a process—this is just playing with clay.
